Introduction
Today’s world is mobile. We not only use our mobile devices to talk and catch up with family and friends; we also use our mobile devices in every other aspect of our daily lives, such as catching up on the news, shopping, ordering food, or just listening to music. When one looks at how marketing has progressed throughout the years it is nearly impossible to dismiss the role that mobile devices play in today’s market. Why are mobile devices so important in today’s world when marketing online?
Advantages over Traditional:
Traditional marketing strategies are easy for consumers to understand as it has been around for quite a while and consumers have gotten used to it. Traditional marketing channels deliver their message in a simple way that is easy for anyone to grasp (Knezovic, 2019). Traditional marketing methods speak to more than just one of your five senses. Traditional marketing methods rely on things that we can touch, feel, and keep with us. This can be in the form of coupons made of paper, or newspaper ads that you can hold in your hand (Knezovic, 2019). Traditional marketing takes on a more direct approach whereas mobile and online marketing does not. With traditional marketing, you can sell your pitch face to face or by phone which for the most salesman is easier than online methods or marketing (Knezovic, 2019).
Mobile Marketing Constraints
Mobile marketing raises a lot of concern when it comes to consumer privacy and protecting their data and personal information. Users of smartphones and other mobile devices have their data used for several different types of advertising such as location-based mobile marketing (Knezovic, 2019). For example, location-based marketing sends push notifications to one’s phone (Knezovic, 2019). This is only possible if the users agree to and opt in the receive the notifications (Knezovic, 2019). If the user doesn’t agree this is spamming. Because of this we now have laws and regulations like GDPR (Knezovic, 2019).
Be sure to do your research and gather a team that will go to great lengths to get the most out of your campaign. By knowing the ins and outs of mobile marketing you have the potential to skyrocket your business to new heights.
